Mr. Converse

I have, to date, been on two dates with Mr. Converse (thanks E for coming up with the nickname!). Both dates have gone well. The first--sushi, the second--dinner and a movie (Role Models--hillarious, seriously, very funny) followed by hanging out with a couple friends at my place. Yes, I let him in my house. This is a big step--a big personal step. I don't know, there is just something about letting someone in to your space--to see more of you than the jeans, sweater, and red wool coat...it's intimidating. Anyway, he's fun, funny, handsome, sarcastic and the two of my friends that met him on Saturday approve.

My qualms about this situation:
* I hate dating in general. It's kind of a hassle.
* One day I am relationship ready, the next day, I think I changed my mind. The cycle continues. I'm a walking contradiction.
* He lives an hour from here--which is no big deal, but it's still something to consider. However, since gas here in the good ole IA is down to $1.79, I suppose I can afford to make the drive.
* He is 8 years older than me. Not a huge deal, but again, something to consider.

Positives:
*He is just as busy if not more busy with his job as I am with mine. Thus, no clingy must see you every night or talk to you on the phone four hours a day stuff.
*He makes me laugh.
*He's smart.
*He socialized with my friends, and it was a very enjoyable time.
*He wears converse tennis shoes.
*He is a democrat.

Oh, the trials of dating. I don't know. I suppose at this point I take it one date at a time and reevaluate. Have any of you been on dates lately? Do you have any helpful advice for this gal?

AM, to answer your question...yes *blushing*

Did you make out with him yet? That's what we REALLY wanna know...:-)

On the negatives list, you should kind of ignore the first two. They will go away if you really dig him. The distance is tough...it is hard to start seeing someone when it is a project just to see each other. But, if he is really that special, then you will deal with it. As for the age, you are just gonna have to see how that goes...could be a big deal, could be totally irrelevant. Depends on you and on him and on how old you both *think* more than how old you really are...

Just take each day as it comes! That's how my boyfriend and I were in the beginning - no pressure because we were both busy people, and it just came together naturally, and now we've been together 2 years next month!

Jamie, one hour is cake! I travel that far to babysit every Saturday night. You can dooo it.

In my opinion, age matters more than AM thinks it does. But, you always have liked those older men. :) Haha.

And, since I can never talk to you anymore unless it is via blog comments ...are you coming home (yes, SPENCE is home) for Christmas?

Just my 2 cents:

all of your cons are more cop-outs. Gas, age (you're not 18 anymore), your fickle mind, and dating is pretty much imperative for a relationship.

All of your pros are good ones.

Sounds like a keeper.

I don't really enjoy dating either, it seems like it's just such a pain in the butt!

Just go with it:) Have fun with it! You'll figure it out, and the distance isn't that big of a deal. It's just an hour. People commute that long to work each day, each way. As for the age thing, who cares? You are older than your years.

And Lauren, Hate to break it to ya....Spencer isn't home to these girls anymore:(

No kidding- his kisses- pro or con?

And hour away is a GOOD thing and so is his salt and peppa hair. It's all, George Clooney ish.

We need to discuss his negatives:
1 and 2 need to be thrown out. You need to get over this unless you want to be the woman on the corner with 1 million cats.

The distance could suck...but you could meet in the middle and absence makes the heart grow fonder. You'll be assured you won't be spending too much time together up front because if you're going to drive an hour to see someone, it's because you really want to see them.

The age...boys mature at such a slower rate than girls. It's obscene. Seriously. However, it just depends on how the conversation and such goes. Before you dissect the situation, give him more of a chance. You've had a great time with him.

Converse are a good sign. They say that he's not too stuffy! Even if he is 8 years older!

Autumn, this comment is only for you!

YOU GUYS ARE SPENCERIANS! Always have been (except for random stints in Germany and that quick stop in Minnesota) and always will be.

Plus, Laurens happens to be a mere 30 minutes away (less with Jamie driving). I think she can get to Spencer!

Oh man, I hated dating SO MUCH.

Ugh. It's such a pain in the butt to be at the polite-getting-to-know-you stage compared to the eating-off-your-plate and hanging-out-in-sweatpants stage.

I don't like dating, either.
But wouldn't mind one or two
these days. Considering
my lackluster of a love life!

As for you, young lady!
I am excited for youuu.
So much fun.

You clearly like the
boy...so forget about
not liking dating...and
that he is eight years
older...and that he doesn't
live around the corner.
WHO CARES!

Have fun with it. Take it
slow...or fast...but just
take it somewhere.

Smooooch.

hi there, first time over here by way of miss sara jane!

im newly dating someone too and have a tendency to think of the cons. which is just... silly. i say just try and enjoy the moment, the newness with a new, fun, sarcastic, nice someone. go with the flow and try and not be attached to the outcome.

...says the girl who has a notorious tendency to jump ship circa date 4 or 5.

Dating does suck but there are some solid positives you have listed there and I think you should keep it going for those reasons. When the negatives outweigh the positives, then it's time to rethink it.

I was wondering if you ever considered changing the layout
of your blog? Its very well written; I love what youve got to say.
But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better.

Youve got an awful lot of text for only having one or two pictures.
Maybe you could space it out better?
